Wink Hub voice control shortcuts with Google Now

I've been using a hacked together system with Tasker to use voice commands to control Wink. It worked, but it's never been that reliable. This past week I've started using Wink's integration directly into Google Now. It's in beta, but so far it's awesome, stable, and exactly what I've expected would be possible with this setup when I got my Wink.

The latest version of the Wink app added this integration. After updating, in the Wink app go to "Shortcuts" and "Add shortcut." At the bottom of this screen will be an option to try making a beta voice shortcut through Google.

Click "Try it" and then choose the mode that you want to program for. Unfortunately there is not an option for custom voice shortcuts yet, but the current assortment covers Morning, Away, Cooking, Movie, TV, Party, Reading, Working, Exercise, Sleep, Vacation, Transit, Night, and Sleep modes.
Several modes are available
Choose the mode you want to program for, and then choose a shortcut action. Make sure to click "Done" in the upper right to complete the creation of the new voice shortcut.

Trigger Google's voice controls with "OK Google," and when it is listening say "Activate night mode in Wink" (or substitute your desired mode). I've set Google Now to always listening when my screen is on, the process for triggering the voice command may be different depending on your configuration.
Successfully activating Night Mode
If your command is successfully recognized, it will respond back with "<mode> activated." You've successfully set up Wink controls with your voice!

  5. Not working. Wink acknowledged and said they were working on it, but it's been long.
